12.5 years in the staffing industry: “no two days were ever the same”
A logistics company calls: they need extra staff today. Not tomorrow. Today.
That’s when the real work begins. Schedules shift, people get called, transport is arranged, and teams are scaled up, sometimes within just a few hours.
For clients, it seems obvious that staff show up quickly. But behind that speed lies something else: experience, oversight, and a network that has to deliver when it matters most.
Hans knows this better than anyone. He spent 12.5 years at Solutions and witnessed firsthand how the logistics staffing industry evolved.
When he started, he stepped into a completely new world.
“The staffing industry was new to me. But that’s exactly what pulled me in, the dynamics. You’re constantly switching gears. No two days are the same.”
What helped him most was trust.
“You need the space to do what you’re good at. I had that here. Trust and honesty, that’s what makes the difference. It gives you the confidence to make decisions.”
Over the years, Solutions grew. The team expanded, processes became more structured, and the industry itself changed with new regulations and higher quality standards. The organization became more professional, without losing touch with reality on the ground. According to Hans, one thing always remained:
“Flexibility. When needed, you step in. Not because you have to, but because the job demands it. That mindset is part of the team.”
And the work never really stops.
What happens globally has a direct impact on logistics in the Netherlands. Goods travel across the world and end up in distribution centers where everything has to run smoothly, including staffing.
“People often only see someone on the warehouse floor. But behind that is an entire chain. Sometimes you forget how big that world really is. When it’s needed, you have to act, one way or another.”
In that constant pressure, Hans was often described as “the calm in the chaos.” Not by standing still, but by keeping a clear overview when things got intense. From coordinating operations to personally driving flex workers to other locations, it was all part of the job.
“You do what needs to be done. Sometimes you’re behind the planning desk, sometimes you’re behind the wheel. That’s part of the charm of this work.”
A key part of that was the network built over the years. What started in Rotterdam and surrounding areas expanded into a much wider operational field.
“That network is everything. Without it, you can’t move. And you always need to move.”
One of the moments he’s most proud of is the construction of the current Solutions office.
“I was involved in the design and build. That was a real milestone, you could see how much we had grown. Suddenly you’re in a prime location. That changes how it feels.”
But in the end, it’s not about buildings or growth alone. It’s about people.
“You’re hired for your work, but collaboration makes the difference. Help each other, be open, stay supportive. That’s how you really build something. That’s how trust grows.”
For new colleagues, that’s the key lesson: stay flexible, adapt, and be ready when needed.
His advice is simple:
“Make sure you’re happy with what you do. Work is a big part of your life. If it doesn’t fit, find something that does.”
After 12.5 years, one feeling stands out. The dynamics. The people. And the moments you can’t plan.
“Honestly? I’ve never once gone to work unwillingly.”
And that probably says it all.
